As the development of artificial intelligence (AI) encounters limitations in terms of infrastructure and energy, Elon Musk put forward a groundbreaking space AI concept on X. His idea involves deploying localized AI satellites in low-latency sun-synchronous orbits. These satellites would be designed to only transmit computational results. According to Musk, this approach will emerge as the most cost-effective method for generating AI bitstreams within the next three years.

He has outlined an ambitious plan to launch satellites on a massive scale, with an annual launch target of million-ton-class satellites. Each of these satellites will be equipped with 100 kW of power. By doing so, he aims to add a staggering 100 gigawatts of AI computing capacity. What's more, these satellites will incur no operational or maintenance costs. They will be connected to the Starlink constellation through high-bandwidth lasers, ensuring seamless communication and data transfer.

Going a step further, Musk proposed the construction of a satellite factory on the Moon. This innovative factory would utilize mass drivers, which are essentially electromagnetic railguns. These mass drivers would be capable of accelerating satellites to lunar escape velocity without the need for traditional rockets. If this plan materializes, the annual AI computing power could soar beyond 100 terawatts. This bold vision has the potential to propel humanity towards a Kardashev Type II civilization, a stage where a civilization can harness and utilize the energy of its entire star system.
