A Harvard Youth Poll has uncovered a notable trend: 59% of young Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 harbor concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) will adversely affect their job prospects. Among them, 26% deem the threat posed by AI to be "serious," while a mere 23% express no worries at all. Interestingly, their level of anxiety regarding AI surpasses that of concerns related to outsourcing and immigration.
In terms of AI usage, 35% of the respondents report frequently utilizing large language models. Moreover, 52% are open to the idea that AI can offer valuable assistance in their academic pursuits or professional endeavors. However, a striking 63% admit to never having used AI tools before.
When it comes to the broader implications of AI on the workplace, the majority of young people adopt a pessimistic stance. Specifically, 41% believe that the integration of AI will render work less meaningful, and 44% express apprehension about a potential decline in career advancement opportunities.
