According to insiders knowledgeable about the situation, social media behemoth Meta has successfully persuaded Alan Dye, a highly influential industrial design executive at Apple, to join its ranks. This move marks Meta's formal foray into the consumer hardware market with AI-driven capabilities. Since 2015, Dye has been at the helm of Apple's user interface design team, and his successor at Apple will be Steve Lemay. This shake-up in executive leadership not only highlights Meta's ambition to carve out a niche for itself as a hardware device manufacturer under its own brand but also intensifies concerns about Apple's talent exodus from its design team, especially following Jony Ive's departure in 2019. Dye will take charge of establishing Meta's new design studio, supervising the design of hardware, software, and AI-integrated interfaces. Dye's exit is undoubtedly a major setback for Apple, which has already witnessed the departure of several key executives recently. Analysts predict that the turnover in Apple's senior management ranks may persist. Moreover, Dye's deputy, Billy Sorrentino, has also made the switch to Meta, and some of Meta's current design leaders will report directly to Dye. In the wake of this news, both Apple's and Meta's stock prices saw a downturn.
