On December 2, the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, China officially unveiled its first barrier-free AI reading companion system, specifically designed to cater to the reading requirements of blind children. Named the Xingguang AI Reading Companion "Xiaoxing," this innovative system allows users to register for free access. Registration can be done by logging in to a comprehensive digital interactive platform dedicated to blind educational resources, using either mobile phones or computers.
Co-developed by the China Braille Press and a leading technology firm, this system effectively tackles three primary challenges that blind children encounter during reading: operational difficulties, comprehension hurdles, and emotional isolation. It addresses the issues of blind children being "unable to see," "struggling to understand," and "lacking meaningful interaction" while reading, providing a more inclusive and engaging reading experience.
