OpenAI has issued a response to a legal complaint alleging that ChatGPT played a role in encouraging a 16-year-old boy, Adam Raine, to end his life. OpenAI highlighted that, according to the chat logs, ChatGPT consistently sent out more than 100 prompts encouraging Adam to seek assistance from others. A thorough review of the chat records reveals no direct link between ChatGPT's interactions and the tragic incident. It has come to light that Adam Raine had shown signs of self-destructive behavior years prior to engaging with ChatGPT, and although he had attempted to reach out to those in his immediate circle for help, his pleas went unanswered. In August of this year, Adam Raine's family initiated legal proceedings against OpenAI and its CEO, Altman. Following the public revelation of the lawsuit, OpenAI implemented a series of modifications to ChatGPT. The lawyer representing the family has described OpenAI's reaction as "unsettling," accusing the company of evading accountability.
