According to sources, Ashok Elluswamy, Vice President of AI Software at Tesla, stated during an all-hands meeting for the Autopilot and humanoid robot Optimus teams that 2026 will be the "most difficult year" in employees' lives. He mentioned that 2026 will be a critical test period for Tesla, and employees should prepare for high-intensity work. The meeting lasted nearly two hours, with several AI department leaders delivering speeches. Employees were informed about the aggressive timeline for mass production of the Optimus robot and specific goals for the Robotaxi self-driving taxi service. Previously, Tesla CEO Elon Musk indicated that the company plans to launch the Robotaxi service in 8 to 10 metropolitan areas by the end of 2025, have over 1,000 self-driving taxis on the road by the end of the year, and initiate production of the Optimus robot by the end of 2026.
