As reported by TechCrunch, WhatsApp, a subsidiary of Meta, has declared an update to its Business API policy, banning the incorporation of general-purpose chatbots. This new regulation is set to come into force on January 15, 2026. This modification is specifically aimed at general-purpose assistants that rely on AI technology as their fundamental feature, like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Perplexity bots. However, AI tools employed by businesses for customer service purposes will not be impacted by this change.
