Mozilla has made an announcement stating that its Firefox browser now enables users to set the AI-powered Perplexity answer engine as the default search choice. This means users can opt for AI-driven web searches and information retrieval directly in the settings, eliminating the need to switch browsers. Earlier, Mozilla was merely testing this feature in a few selected markets. However, it has now opted to roll it out completely to desktop users across the globe, with intentions to expand its availability to mobile devices in the upcoming months.

Once activated, Perplexity offers a conversational search experience, presenting answers with credible citations right away, rather than simply providing a list of web links. This new option will be accessible through the unified search button located in the address bar. Users will have the flexibility to switch to this engine or set it as their default search engine whenever they wish. Mozilla has also expressed its hope to introduce additional AI answer engines in the future, aiming to further enhance the search experience for its users.
