SoftBank Group is set to pledge a portion of its Arm shares as collateral to secure $5 billion in fresh loans, aiming to ramp up its investments in OpenAI and the broader artificial intelligence (AI) sector. Should this financing endeavor prove successful, the total amount of borrowings backed by Arm shares will surge to $18.5 billion.
At present, SoftBank is actively engaged in discussions with a number of international banks. As of March 2025, the company has already secured $13.5 billion in loans using Arm shares as collateral. Moreover, it boasts an unused credit line of $5 billion, underscoring its significant financial maneuverability.
