Recent data reveals that OpenAI's video-generating app, Sora, not only claimed the top spot on the U.S. App Store but also technically outperformed ChatGPT in terms of downloads during its first week on the market. According to Appfigures, Sora garnered 627,000 downloads on the iOS platform within its initial seven days, eclipsing ChatGPT's 606,000 downloads in its first week. However, this comparison isn't entirely equitable, as ChatGPT's initial launch was limited to the U.S., whereas Sora's release encompassed both the U.S. and Canada. If we focus solely on U.S. download figures, Sora's first-week tally approximated 96% of ChatGPT's. Presently, Sora operates on an invitation-only basis, yet its swift uptake is remarkable. On its launch day, Sora registered 56,000 downloads, securing the third position on the overall U.S. App Store chart. By October 3rd, it had ascended to the pinnacle, outstripping the launch performances of mainstream AI apps. Since its September 30th debut, Sora's adoption rate has sustained a steady trajectory, peaking at 107,800 downloads on October 1st and oscillating between 84,400 and 98,500 downloads thereafter—an impressive feat for an app that isn't universally accessible.
