According to the latest data from app intelligence firm Appfigures, OpenAI's video - generation app, Sora, made an impressive start on the US iOS platform. In its inaugural week, it garnered 627,000 downloads, a figure that comes very close to ChatGPT's 606,000 downloads during the corresponding period last year.

Sora was launched on September 30, 2025. On its very first day, it attracted 56,000 downloads. The number then surged to 108,000 on the second day. Just four days after its release, it soared to the top of the US App Store's free - app chart.

It's worth noting that currently, Sora is only accessible by invitation and is restricted to the US and Canadian markets. Nevertheless, its performance has already outshone that of similar apps, including Google Gemini and OpenAI's own ChatGPT.

Data reveals that on October 1, Sora reached its peak in daily downloads, hitting 107,800. Subsequently, its daily download numbers have fluctuated between 84,400 and 98,500.
