By 2025, the EU is vigorously pushing forward its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, with the goal of curbing reliance on foreign suppliers and boosting the competitiveness of its homegrown industries. As revealed in a draft proposal obtained by the Financial Times, the European Commission is set to devise a new "Strategic Approach to Deploying AI" to champion AI tools developed in Europe.

This strategy places a premium on safety and resilience, seeking to propel AI development across five pivotal domains: expanding AI computing infrastructure, facilitating access to top-notch data, expediting AI adoption in strategic sectors, fortifying AI talent cultivation, and streamlining regulatory adherence.

The blueprint encompasses the establishment of AI factories and supercomputing networks, the formulation of data alliance strategies and data labs, the targeting of AI applications in critical industries like manufacturing and healthcare, the creation of AI skills academies and international talent recruitment frameworks, as well as the setup of AI act service desks and regulatory sandbox mechanisms.

Moreover, the EU is poised to invest more than €10 billion in upgrading computing facilities, fostering autonomy in AI chip design and production within Europe, and lessening dependence on external supply chains.
