Recently, New York City's subway system has been inundated with a slew of stark white advertisements for the wearable AI gadget, 'Friend.' Avi Schiffmann, the CEO of the company behind the product, revealed that the advertising blitz has cost upwards of $1 million. This initiative represents the first global, large-scale ad campaign for an AI product, a move Schiffmann acknowledges as a 'high-stakes gamble,' especially given his current financial constraints. The $129 'Friend' device has stirred controversy, primarily due to apprehensions about its constant user surveillance capabilities. To compound matters, some of the advertisements have fallen victim to graffiti vandalism. Aware of New Yorkers' general skepticism towards artificial intelligence, Schiffmann opted for a minimalist ad design, hoping to ignite public discourse on the subject.
