Recently, Baidu unveiled its latest innovation on the global stage: the next - generation, lightweight text recognition model, PP - OCRv5, for overseas markets. Despite packing a mere 7 million parameters (here “0.07 billion” is converted to the more commonly used “7 million” in English to avoid confusion), this model delivers OCR accuracy on par with that of massive models boasting 70 billion parameters. Since PaddleOCR was made open - source in 2020, it has soared past 9 million cumulative downloads. Moreover, it has found direct or indirect application in over 5,900 open - source projects. This remarkable feat has cemented its status as the sole Chinese OCR project on GitHub to amass over 50,000 Stars.
