On August 26, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a landmark resolution on global AI governance, establishing an "Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence" and initiating a "Global Dialogue on AI Governance" mechanism. This initiative aims to foster sustainable development and bridge the digital divide. Under the resolution, the UN will convene a 40-member expert panel tasked with evaluating the risks, opportunities, and implications of AI. Concurrently, the UN will foster global dialogue and policy deliberations to foster consensus, enhance global AI governance, uphold sustainable development goals, and work towards reducing the digital divide.
