On Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly unveiled the creation of an "Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence," tasked with providing scientific backing to national AI-related decision-making processes. This panel will undertake evidence-based scientific evaluations, scrutinize AI's potential, risks, and consequences, and foster intergovernmental discussions. The UN Secretary-General is in the process of selecting 40 members for a three-year mandate. Furthermore, the resolution envisages an annual global dialogue to enhance international collaboration and advance the UN's development goals.
