This week, Musk lashed out at Apple, accusing it of favoring OpenAI in the App Store. He claimed that OpenAI's AI application, ChatGPT, occupied a prominent recommended position on the homepage, whereas his xAI company's app, Grok, received no such preferential treatment. Musk suggested that there might be an undisclosed arrangement between Apple and OpenAI, which he believes is detrimental to xAI. He further warned that xAI would consider legal action against Apple.

In response, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, expressed surprise at Musk's accusations, noting the irony given the allegations that have been leveled against Musk's own business practices. Apple issued a statement denying any preferential treatment, stressing that its App Store operates with fairness and that all recommendations adhere to objective criteria.
