Recently, a real-world image of Intel’s upcoming Nova Lake-S desktop processor surfaced on social media, revealing its adoption of a new LGA 1954 socket design. This marks a notable upgrade for Intel’s desktop platform. Currently, the processor is in its early prototype phase and has started to be shared among industry partners, though its official release is still some time away.
The Nova Lake-S is anticipated to feature up to 52 cores, leveraging a dual compute chip architecture. With an extreme power consumption of up to 700W, it is primarily aimed at the high-end desktop (HEDT) market. This processor will be compatible with Intel’s 900-series motherboards, which include five distinct chipsets: Z990, Z970, B960, Q970, and W980. Its launch is expected by the end of 2026, with the desktop retail version potentially being delayed until around CES 2027.
