On March 12, Wired reported that OpenAI is accelerating the development of its AI programming product, Codex, to catch up with the leading position of its competitor Anthropic's Claude Code in the rapidly growing AI programming tools market. It is reported that Claude Code has contributed about one-fifth of Anthropic's revenue, with an annualized scale exceeding $2.5 billion, while Codex's annualized revenue is approximately $1 billion. This indicates that in the AI programming market, which may reach a scale of trillions of dollars, OpenAI is transitioning from an early leader to a pursuer.
