General Motors has announced plans to procure lithium iron phosphate batteries from China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) for its forthcoming entry-level Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle. This move represents a temporary strategy until a joint venture with South Korea's LG Energy Solution is established to manufacture batteries within the United States. Production of the Bolt EV is set to commence later this year.
