On August 1, the Associated Press (AP) reported that a Miami jury found Tesla Motors partially liable for a fatal car accident involving its autopilot technology in Florida, ordering the company to pay over $243 million in damages to the victim's family. The jury concluded that technical malfunctions within Tesla's system were a significant contributor to the crash and could not be solely blamed on the driver. This ruling includes $200 million in punitive damages and $43 million in compensatory damages, totaling $243 million.
