On July 25, Business Insider obtained an internal memo revealing that Tesla intends to commence its Robotaxi service in San Francisco as early as this Friday. Selected Tesla owners will be invited to experience this pioneering service. According to the memo, the Robotaxi's operational area encompasses most of the San Francisco Bay Area, spanning Marin County, much of the East Bay, San Francisco itself, and extending south to San Jose. During the initial rollout phase, each vehicle will be accompanied by a safety driver. A spokesperson from the California Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed that the department has engaged with Tesla, but noted that Tesla has yet to submit an application for a permit for autonomous driving tests or deployments. The agency declined to comment on whether a permit is necessary when safety monitors are on board.
