On July 24, the European Union (EU) member states unanimously approved the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on American goods amounting to €93 billion, primarily targeting high-value industrial commodities such as aircraft, automobiles, and electrical equipment. Prior to this decision, the EU had already enacted an initial round of tariffs worth €21 billion on US soybeans, motorcycles, and other products. Should negotiations between the EU and the US fail to yield a resolution, these countermeasures will be enacted on August 7.
