On July 16, Stellantis (STLA.N) announced the cessation of its hydrogen fuel cell technology development program, citing projections that hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles will fail to achieve widespread adoption by the end of this decade. The company highlighted several key factors: inadequate hydrogen fuel infrastructure, substantial capital investment needs, and insufficient consumer incentives for purchase. Consequently, the new hydrogen-powered Pro One series of trucks, initially planned for mass production in France and Poland this year, has been shelved. Stellantis assured that this decision will not impact employees at production sites, and resources allocated to hydrogen technology R&D will be reallocated to alternative projects.
