The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently unveiled the preliminary findings of its audit on subsidy funds allocated for the promotion and application of new energy vehicles from 2016 to 2020. Several automakers experienced reductions in their subsidy amounts due to issues such as non-compliant vehicle certifications or the failure to submit operational data. Over the five-year period, BYD received an average annual subsidy of 3.76 million yuan, peaking at 8.11 million yuan in 2019. Nevertheless, a decrease of nearly 5,000 subsidized vehicles resulted in a subsidy reduction of approximately 142 million yuan for the company. Beijing Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. received an average annual subsidy of 124 million yuan, with a high of roughly 300 million yuan in 2017. However, due to a reduction of approximately 2,776 subsidized vehicles, the subsidy amount decreased by about 97 million yuan. Automakers including GAC, FAW, Geely, SAIC, Chery, and Dongfeng also received subsidies from 2017 to 2020, with annual averages ranging from 910,000 yuan to 13.05 million yuan. Dongfeng Automobile received the highest subsidy among them, while Chery faced a subsidy reduction exceeding 140 million yuan. Notably, Tesla participated in subsidy declarations for the first time in 2020, receiving a subsidy of 11.2 million yuan without any reductions.
