On July 7, the Standardization Administration of China officially unveiled the revised mandatory national standard titled "Technical Requirements and Test Methods for Passenger Car Braking Systems." This standard will come into force on January 1, 2026, marking a significant update since 2008. The revision introduces new provisions, including specifications for electric transmission braking systems, electric regenerative braking, and emergency braking signals. Additionally, it modifies the protocols for parking brake release and brake lining wear inspections. Notably, the new standard incorporates strict requirements regarding "single-pedal braking," explicitly stating that decelerating to a stop by simply releasing the accelerator pedal should not be permitted in the default setting to mitigate the risk of accidental misoperation.
