Audi's Chief Executive Officer has announced a strategic shift, abandoning the previous plan to halt production of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2033. Instead, the company will introduce new ICE models and plug-in hybrid variants between 2024 and 2026, thereby extending the relevant production lifecycle. Moving forward, high-performance RS models, such as the next-generation RS6, will integrate plug-in hybrid systems. Audi has opted against introducing compact electric vehicles but will focus on developing electric vehicles comparable in size to the A3. Additionally, Audi will spearhead the development of hardware and software architectures for large vehicles within the Volkswagen Group, with the new scalable system platform also accommodating internal combustion engines.
