Mazda Motor Corporation of Japan has revealed plans to commence the production of electric vehicles (EVs) at its facility in Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, by 2027. These EVs will be powered by lithium-ion batteries manufactured at a newly established local factory. The current lineup at the Hofu plant includes seven models, highlighted by the SUV "CX-80". Mazda aims to streamline production by manufacturing both EVs and gasoline vehicles on the same assembly line, thereby minimizing initial equipment investments. This strategy is projected to decrease costs by 85% compared to the construction of a dedicated EV factory.
