China's passenger vehicle retail sales reached 1.93 million units in May, marking a 13% year-on-year increase. Among these, new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales surged to 1.056 million units, a 30% rise, with a market penetration rate of 53.5%. Manufacturers' wholesale sales totaled 2.329 million units, up 14% compared to the same period last year. Notably, wholesale sales of NEVs amounted to 1.24 million units, an impressive 37% growth, with a penetration rate of 54.2%. For the year so far, cumulative retail sales have hit 8.802 million units, a 9% year-on-year increase, while cumulative sales of NEVs have reached 4.38 million units, representing a 34% surge.
