CPCA: Global NEV Penetration Hits 20.4% in Q1 2025

During the first four months of 2025, global automotive sales totaled 30.26 million units, with 6.18 million of those being new energy vehicles (NEVs), achieving a penetration rate of 20.4%. China's NEV market penetration soared to an impressive 44%, firmly positioning it as the leader in this segment. In April alone, global sales of new energy passenger vehicles surged 34% year-on-year to reach 1.63 million units. Notably, China accounted for 70.2% of these sales, contributing 80% of the global incremental growth, solidifying its status as the pivotal competitive market for NEVs. The penetration of NEVs varies significantly across nations, with Norway leading the pack at 81%, followed by Germany at 26%, the United States at 8.7%, and Japan trailing behind at just 2%.
