On May 28, Samsung SDI revealed its plans to furnish batteries for Kia's forthcoming generation of electric vehicles, with production set to take place at its facility in Hungary. Currently, the plant is undergoing a transformation, which includes dismantling a portion of Line 1 and enhancing Line 3, anticipated to be completed by the end of the year. This upgrade aims to accommodate the heightened manufacturing demands for the new products. The prismatic batteries supplied by Samsung SDI leverage advanced stacking technology, boasting a nickel content exceeding 91%, and employ silicon-carbon nanocomposite anode materials. Pursuant to the agreement, Samsung SDI will supply electric vehicle batteries for the European market to Kia, a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group, spanning from 2026 to 2032.
