Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda has expressed the company's preference for launching traditional fuel-powered sports cars over electric vehicles. He disclosed that the mass production version of the electric sports car FT-Se will not be released in the near future due to the current limitations of electric vehicle technology, which falls short of meeting the rigorous demands of sports cars in terms of endurance and track performance. Despite this, Toyota remains committed to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio; however, its advancements in the realm of electric sports cars are proceeding at a relatively slower pace, with the FT-Se not anticipated to reach the market until at least 2026. In the interim, Toyota will maintain its focus on developing fuel-powered sports cars, encompassing the Supra, potential revivals of classic models such as the Celica and MR2, as well as the next generation of 86 models. Toyota underscores that fuel engines and manual transmissions will persist for the foreseeable future, catering to the enduring passion and pursuit of internal combustion engines among automotive enthusiasts.
