SK On, the battery manufacturing arm of South Korea's SK Group, announced on Friday that it has entered into a landmark agreement to supply batteries to Slate, an American electric vehicle (EV) startup backed by Jeff Bezos. Under the terms of the deal, SK On will provide Slate with 20 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of batteries over the period from 2026 to 2031, with an option to increase the supply in line with Slate's production scale expansion. This volume is sufficient to power approximately 300,000 mid-sized electric vehicles. While the financial specifics of the contract remain undisclosed, industry insiders estimate its value to be in the region of KRW 4 trillion (approximately USD 2.78 billion).
