Peng Jun, co-founder and CEO of Pony.ai, disclosed at the Shanghai Auto Show that the company anticipates achieving break-even between 2028 and 2029, prioritizing the expansion of its vehicle fleet. Pony.ai unveiled its seventh-generation automotive-grade autonomous driving software and hardware system, marking a significant milestone. For the first time, three Robotaxi models, developed in collaboration with Toyota, BAIC, and GAC, were showcased together, heralding 2025 as the inaugural year for Robotaxi mass production. The newly introduced system is pre-installed and ready for mass production, with costs slashed by an impressive 70%.

Peng Jun emphasized that the commercialization of L4 autonomous driving necessitates industry-wide collaboration, encompassing regulatory enhancements, user experience optimization, and industrial chain maturation. The evolution of regulatory oversight for assisted driving assists consumers in differentiating between technology levels, while L3 faces hurdles due to the intricacies involved in defining responsibility.
