The European Union (EU) had initially proposed to classify carbon fiber as a "hazardous material" and ban its use in automobiles. However, following deliberations, this proposal has been removed from the draft legislation. Consequently, vehicles sold in Europe after 2029 will still be permitted to utilize carbon fiber. Renowned for its lightweight and high-strength properties, carbon fiber is extensively used in the automotive, aerospace, and other industries, despite potential safety risks during recycling processes. Nevertheless, carbon fiber remains a pivotal material in reducing vehicle weight, which is crucial for enhancing fuel efficiency and extending the range of electric vehicles. While some automakers are exploring alternative materials, such as flax fiber, carbon fiber currently retains irreplaceable advantages.
