A report by Nikkei Asia on Tuesday revealed that Hino Motors, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, a subsidiary of Germany's Daimler Truck, are edging closer to finalizing a merger agreement. The companies intend to establish a holding company for their truck divisions, with the goal of listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Prime Market by April 2026. The source of this information remains undisclosed. In May 2023, the two companies agreed to merge their truck businesses by the end of 2024, but the deal was subsequently postponed indefinitely in February 2024. A final agreement is anticipated as soon as May, with Japan's Fair Trade Commission nearing the completion of its antitrust review. Should the transaction be successful, the new holding company will own Hino Motors and Mitsubishi Fuso in their entirety.
