Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology convened a closed-door meeting and promulgated pertinent policies to address the issue of exaggerated marketing tactics employed by automakers. On the 17th, meeting minutes began to circulate within WeChat groups, followed by an insightful article by Zhang Jinhua, the President of the China Society of Automotive Engineers. Industry insiders and media outlets have since confirmed this development. The meeting unequivocally mandated automakers to standardize the use of terminology and refrain from exaggerated promotions, specifically prohibiting the use of terms such as 'autonomous driving' and 'high-level intelligent driving,' while advocating for the uniform adoption of 'combined driving assistance systems.' Additionally, stringent requirements were imposed on OTA (Over-the-Air) upgrade management, emphasizing the necessity of rigorous version risk management and implementation only after exhaustive verification. These measures are intended to rein in excessive marketing practices by automakers, safeguard consumer rights and interests, and foster the healthy growth of the autonomous driving industry.
