On April 18, sources familiar with the matter revealed that Toyota is contemplating manufacturing the next-generation of its top-selling SUV, the RAV4, within the United States to counteract the effects of American import car tariffs. Presently, this SUV is assembled in Kentucky, Canada, and Japan. Initially, Toyota intended to export the new RAV4 from Canada and Japan to the United States; however, the company is now weighing the option of establishing an additional production line in Kentucky. This strategic shift aims to alleviate the burden of the 25% tariff on imported vehicles, a measure imposed during the Trump administration, and to shield against potential cost increases stemming from fluctuations in the yen exchange rate.
