On March 27, industry data released on Thursday revealed a significant drop in car production in the UK during February, with electric and hybrid vehicles particularly affected. This underscores the persistent challenges posed by heightened global economic uncertainty to the automotive sector. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), total production of cars and commercial vehicles fell nearly 12% year-on-year, reaching 82,178 units in February. Notably, production of battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and hybrid vehicles declined by 5.6%. This downturn marks the 12th consecutive month of decline in UK car production.
