On March 25, market research firm JATO Dynamics unveiled the latest data, revealing that Tesla's electric vehicle sales in the European market declined significantly in February, trailing behind traditional European brands like Volkswagen and BMW, as well as Chinese competitors. Analyst Felipe Munoz attributed this decline to Musk's political engagements, heightened competition within the electric vehicle market, and the phasing out of Tesla's top-selling Model Y. According to the data, across the 25 EU member states, the UK, Norway, and Switzerland, Tesla's battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations plummeted by 44% year-on-year in February, with sales falling below 16,000 units and a market share sliding to 9.6%, marking the lowest level for this period in the past five years. In stark contrast, Volkswagen's BEV sales soared by 180%, nearing 20,000 units, while BMW and its Mini brand collectively sold nearly 19,000 units. Furthermore, the combined sales of electric vehicles from Chinese brands surpassed Tesla, with BYD and Polestar witnessing a 94% and 84% increase in BEV sales, respectively, hitting over 4,000 and over 2,000 units; XPeng sold over 1,000 units, and Leapro sold nearly 900 units.
