Maserati has decided to halt the development of its electric supercar, the MC20 Folgore, originally scheduled for launch this year, citing a lack of sufficient market demand. The automaker had envisioned equipping this model with a potent 700-horsepower three-motor system. However, since the introduction of the gasoline-powered MC20 in 2022, there has been no further progress on the electric variant. Market research indicates that supercar enthusiasts currently favor internal combustion engine models and do not foresee the adoption of pure electric vehicles in the near future. Consequently, Maserati will focus on enhancing the gasoline-powered MC20, potentially incorporating improvements inspired by its racing version. Additionally, the launch of the electric Quattroporte sedan, originally planned for 2024, has been postponed to 2028. There is also uncertainty regarding the timeline of the large electric SUV project, which was set to be introduced in 2027.
