At the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, an AI-powered Maserati MC20 Coupé shattered the autonomous driving speed record, reaching an astonishing 318 km/h. This milestone eclipses the previous 2022 record of 192.8 mph (approximately 310 km/h). The test was a collaborative effort between teams including the Indy Autonomous Challenge and Politecnico di Milano, with the objective of evaluating the capabilities of autonomous driving systems under extreme conditions, ultimately enhancing safety in urban low-speed environments. The autonomous prototype, derived from the production version of the Maserati MC20, was officially certified as the "Fastest Production Autonomous Vehicle" in 2024. The CEO of the Indy Autonomous Challenge emphasized that their ambition is to transfer the lessons learned from high-speed racetracks into safe and sustainable solutions for autonomous highway driving.
