On November 6, Musk said Tesla plans to gradually scale back Cybertruck production at its Texas factory starting in mid-2027, freeing up capacity to expand Cybercab output. Tesla began building the uniquely styled electric pickup at its plant near Austin in 2023, but the model has struggled with persistently weak demand and multiple recalls. In a social media post on Friday, Musk did not specify whether Cybertruck production would move to another factory or be discontinued altogether. This year, Tesla started producing the golden, two-seat Cybercab — designed specifically for Robotaxi service — at the Austin plant. The model is seen as a key part of the company's shift from an EV maker to an AI product company, with a business scope that includes humanoid robots. Musk once called the Cybertruck Tesla's best product ever and projected annual output could exceed 250,000 units, depending on market demand — but first-year sales came in at less than one-sixth of that target.
