Tesla has introduced an Emergency Drive Away feature in software update 2026.38.3 that allows owners to drive away directly from Superchargers without unplugging the charging cable in emergency situations—but at a steep price. Normally, Tesla vehicles cannot shift into gear or drive away while plugged in. With the new feature, when owners attempt to shift into gear while plugged in, the touchscreen displays a red warning that reads: "Cannot shift into gear while connected to a Supercharger. Activating Emergency Drive Away can force release."
