Toyota and Honda are currently conducting trials of humanoid robots within their Japanese manufacturing facilities. These robots are being assigned a variety of tasks, spanning from the installation of wire harnesses to conducting final product inspections. During the 2026 Japan Mobility Show, both automotive giants presented their cutting-edge robotic offerings. Toyota has outlined plans to integrate up to 400,000 robots into its factories, commencing from 2028, with an estimated 150,000 of these robots set to be based at its flagship plant. The introduction of these humanoid robots will occur in tandem with factory modernization efforts. Toyota underscores that the primary objective is to foster collaboration between robots and human workers, rather than to supplant human labor.
