Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, along with three other departments, jointly released the "Notice on Further Strengthening the Management of Innovative Design, R&D, Testing, and Verification of Automotive Products (Draft for Comment)." This notice explicitly prohibits the installation of fully concealed door handles in vehicles. It also mandates that innovative door handle designs must incorporate mechanical redundancy features and provide sufficient space for hand operation. The new regulation will come into effect for newly declared automotive products starting January 1, 2027. For products that have already received approval, supplementary technical parameters and verification materials must be submitted by July 1, 2027. Non-compliance with these requirements, coupled with the presence of safety hazards, will lead to production suspension and potential recalls. Experts have pointed out that rectification does not necessarily entail replacing the entire door handle; instead, batches with hardware that cannot be modified may need to halt production and assess the feasibility of implementing recall plans. The new regulation places safety as its foremost priority, allowing for the retention of certain designs as long as comprehensive evidence is provided to demonstrate the absence of safety hazards.
