On October 12, China and Europe reached a consensus on three core principles concerning hybrid vehicles. Firstly, there is the principle of respect for facts. According to Eurostat data, the EU imported 107,000 hybrid vehicles from China in 2024, with this number surging to 302,000 in 2025. Based on the 2025 figures, both sides have agreed on an upward adjustment mechanism to ensure export opportunities and sustained growth for Chinese companies. Secondly, the principle of non-discrimination was emphasized. It was agreed that no measures should specifically target Chinese products or discriminate against Chinese enterprises, and that China's import quota should not be lower than that of other import sources in Europe. Thirdly, the principle of compliance was reaffirmed. Trade arrangements must strictly adhere to the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and China reserves the right to take measures such as dispute settlement and trade compensation within the WTO framework. These three principles collectively form a robust foundation for safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
