On October 9, a screenshot from a WeChat Moment, shared by a blogger, revealed a post by Yuan Yongbin, Chairman of Bethel Automotive Safety Systems. In his post, Yuan argued that ordinary drivers would not be able to break the brake pedal under normal circumstances and raised concerns about whether certain media outlets were tarnishing the reputation of Chinese brands in pursuit of higher website traffic. He explained that a typical pedal force of 25 kilograms is enough to achieve maximum deceleration and bring a vehicle to a complete stop within 3 seconds. After reviewing the test footage, Yuan believed that the test driver had applied a lateral force, causing the pedal to be forcibly 'wrenched' off, which he considered to be abusive usage. He highlighted that national standards require the pedal to endure a frontal force of 200 kilograms for 5 seconds without breaking, but do not account for lateral 'wrenching' forces. In response to inquiries from netizens about whether Bethel supplied relevant parts for the Zunjie V800 model, relevant staff from Bethel clarified that Zunjie was not among their clients and that the company does not produce brake pedals. The staff also confirmed that the chairman's comments were made from a technical standpoint.
