On September 14, reports surfaced indicating that the State Administration for Market Regulation (also serving as the Standardization Administration) has recently approved and issued a new national standard titled Specifications for Quality and Defect Management of Automotive Software. In the realm of quality planning, this standard mandates that automotive manufacturers, software suppliers, and pertinent entities within the supply chain must establish a comprehensive software quality and safety management system. This system should incorporate the execution of ten pivotal quality assurance activities, encompassing software safety management, avoidance of past issues, and status report monitoring. These measures are designed to cater to diverse development models and reinforce oversight over various software types, including artificial intelligence software, embedded software, and cloud-based software.

Concerning critical process reviews and software risk assessments, the standard delineates review checkpoints for five essential processes: software project planning, requirements analysis, design implementation, software integration, and verification and validation. These checkpoints can be combined and implemented flexibly based on actual circumstances. Simultaneously, the standard necessitates the establishment of a software risk assessment mechanism to perform tiered evaluations of software issues at each stage. This approach encourages a paradigm shift in quality control from a reactive "post-event handling" approach to a proactive "defect prevention" strategy.
