Uber executives Andrew MacDonald and Dara Khosrowshahi anticipate a significant transformation in personal transportation over the next 15 to 20 years. They predict that the majority of individuals will opt for bicycles, scooters, public transit, or autonomous vehicles, rather than owning private cars and obtaining driver's licenses. Travel requests will predominantly be handled by robotic systems. MacDonald points out that private cars represent inefficient assets with high associated costs. Consequently, Uber has shifted its strategy by discontinuing its in-house development of a self-driving car fleet and has instead positioned itself as a platform for operating autonomous vehicles, partnering with relevant companies in the process. At present, autonomous vehicles are already being deployed in major cities, with both Uber and Lyft initiating preparations to integrate this technology into their services.
